Please follow the steps below to activate your Tri-Agency postdoctoral award and establish a research account (worktag) at UBC. These instructions cover the following programs:
- Canada Postdoctoral Research Award (CPRA)
- Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards (CIRTA)
Step 1: Tri-Agency (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) Award Notification and Acceptance
The funding agency sends an award notification document (indicating award amount and duration) directly to the award recipient (awardee):
- Offer of an Award, 1 page (CIHR)
- Award letter/Postdoctoral Award summary, 3 pages (NSERC)
- Notice of Award, 2 pages (SSHRC)
Step 2: Submit Required Documentation to UBC's Office of Research Services (ORS)
For a CIHR CPRA award, the awardee must submit the following documents to ORS with a reference to the FAS# provided at the time of the application:
- Award notification document
- Response to Offer of an Award form
- ORS will complete Institution Signature at Primary Location of Research section. Dean or Research Director signature not required.
For a CIHR CIRTA award, the awardee must submit the following documents to ORS:
- A Research Project Information Form (RPIF) completed by the supervising faculty member. For assistance obtaining required signatures, please contact your faculty's Grant Facilitator.
- A copy of the application submitted to the funding agency.
- Award notification document
- Response to Offer of an Award form
- ORS will complete Institution Signature at Primary Location of Research section. Dean or Research Director signature not required.
For NSERC/SSHRC awards, the awardee must submit the following documents to ORS at ors@ors.ubc.ca:
- A Research Project Information Form (RPIF) completed by the supervising faculty member. For assistance obtaining required signatures, please contact your faculty's Grant Facilitator.
- A copy of the application submitted to the funding agency.
- Award notification document
- Request for First Instalment Form
- ORS will complete and sign Part 4 of the form.
Step 3: Award Activation and Account Setup
Once ORS has signed the appropriate form and returned it to the awardee, the awardee must:
- Submit the signed form to the sponsoring agency.
- For CIHR, the agency will provide an Authorization for Funding (AFF) document.
- For NSERC/SSHRC, forward to ORS the sponsoring agency's email confirming that:
- the form has been received1; and
- the award will be activated.
Note:
- 1An automated acknowledgement or auto-reply email does not meet this requirement.
- NSERC and SSHRC will only accept the Request for First Instalment Form within 4 to 6 weeks of the award start date, as outlined in the Tri-agency Research Training Award Holder's Guide
Upon receipt of the AFF (CIHR) or the sponsoring agency's confirmation email (NSERC/SSHRC), ORS will set up the account.
Instructions for Submitting Canada Postdoctoral Research Award (CPRA) applications:
- CIHR: UBC's Office of Research Services (ORS) approval is required at time of application.
- NSERC/SSHRC: applications are submitted to directly to the sponsoring agency without ORS involvement. For assistance, please visit the UBC Postdoctoral Fellows Office website.
