The 2012/13 Northern Scientific Training Program is now open for applications. The NSTP supports student research in the North by supplying supplementary funds to offset the additional costs of Northern research.

Before filling in the application, students and professors must read the program guidelines. Answers to the usual questions we receive each year are found in the Program Overview page and in the "Frequently Asked Questions" document. 

NSTP funds are to be supplementary to the total cost of the research, and this must be clearly indicated in the application. These funds can only be used for logistical costs and translator/interpreter fees. Successful NSTP applications typically receive $1,500 to $3,000 per student.

Application forms must be filled out online at: http://www.ainc-inac.gc.ca/nth/st/nstp/electro-eng.asp. If you received support from NSTP this past year, you must complete a Research Report online at the same link as the applications. Once a student has completed the online application, it must be released to the professor for approval. Once the professor has approved the application, it is then released to the Chair of the UBC Polar and Alpine Committee (Dr. Greg Henry). It must also be printed for signatures and the printed forms submitted to the Office of Research Services.

In a memo to NSTP applicants, Dr. Greg Henry, Chair of the UBC Polar and Alpine Research Committee outlining the requirement for a two-page proposal for the UBC committee. The proposal is to be an extended version of the paragraph length proposal allowed on the NSTP form.

The deadline for submitting signed Applications and Reports to the Office of Research Services is Friday November 18, 2011.
